Where is the Vintgar Gorge located?
The Vintgar Gorge is located in northwestern Slovenia, just about four kilometers northwest of the famous Lake Bled. The area belongs to the Julian Alps and the gorge itself is locates within the Triglav National Park. The gorge is near the small village of Podhom in the municipality of Gorje. It’s an ideal day trip destination, easily accessible from both Bled and the motorway.
For those arriving by car, there’s a central parking lot located a short distance from the gorge. A free shuttle bus runs from this official parking lot. Getting to Vintgar Gorge by train & public bus
Podhom train station is the closest station to the entrance of the Vintgar Gorge. It lies on the scenic Bohinj railway line, which connects Jesenice with Nova Gorica. From the station, it’s about a 1.5-kilometer walk to the gorge entrance. The path is well-marked and takes approximately 30 minutes to walk.
The free Vintgar Shuttle departs from Bled bus station. However, please note: Bled bus station is not directly adjacent to Bled train station! If you arrive at one of Bled’s train stations ( Bled Jezero or Lesce-Bled ), you must first get to the bus station. From there, you can take the convenient shuttle service, which runs regularly and takes you directly to the gorge entrance. Traveling from Bled bus station is a good option if you want to combine your visit to the gorge with a stay in Bled town – or if you are spending your holiday in Bled and planning a day trip to the gorge.
